The Most Trusted Road Construction Equipment Manufacturer
Ammann India Takes Steps to Provide Products With Value, Advanced Technology.
Ammann India has seen a great deal of growth in the last two years – growth that has helped the company solidify its position as the largest and most trusted manufacturer of road construction equipment in India.
In 2018, Ammann India opened a new facility that includes state-of-the-art manufacturing. The advanced manufacturing technology, including robotic welding, ensures that quality is high and that products are delivered to customers in a timely manner. The facility also includes a training centre, Ammann Academy. Ammann India is the only manufacturer in the country to offer operator training on both machines and asphalt plants. More than 1,000 operators have been trained since the facility opened.
Ammann India is a subsidiary of the Ammann Group, which in June 2020 acquired 100% stake of Gujarat Apollo business. Just two months later, in August 2020, Mr. Anand Sundaresan assumed the position of Managing Director and Member of the Board of Directors at Ammann India. Mr. Sundaresan has served over the past decades in leading roles at varied equipment manufacturers and Industry Associations in India. Adding him to the senior management team has helped Ammann India further strengthen its partnerships and success in Indian markets.
Ammann India unites two brands: Ammann and Apollo. Both brands are manufactured under one roof for the benefit of its customers. The brands are also supported by the same high-quality after sales organisation.
Apollo-branded products include Asphalt Plants, Mechanical Pavers and Sensor Pavers. They offer customers value for the price.
Ammann-branded products are Asphalt Plants, Sensor Pavers and Compactors. They stand for the most advanced European Technology in respect of Productivity, Mix-Quality and Environmental friendliness.
The value and performance of Ammann and Apollo roadbuilding equipment was recently seen on two high-profile airport projects, which demand environmentally sensitive equipment.
Mumbai Airport Project
An Ammann ABC 180 ValueTec Asphalt-Mixing Plant provided the reliability and quality that were essential on a recent project at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai.
The work included resurfacing and profile correction of runway intersections. An average of 1,000 flights arrive or depart from the airport everyday. To minimize disruptions to service, the airport was closed daily for only six hours. Even this limited timeframe impacted approximately 240 flights during each closure. Plant production and dependability were crucial to meeting the project deadline. AIC Infrastructure handled the asphalt production and placement. The firm utilized an Ammann ABC 180 ValueTec Asphalt-Mixing Plant. The plant produced approximately 700 tons of asphalt mix per day to help keep the resurfacing work on track. The firm also utilized two Ammann AP 240 Pneumatic Tyred Rollers; two ARX 91 Tandem Rollers; and an AFT 600-3 Tracked Paver.
The company describes the biggest challenges as “procurement of plant and machines, time management to ensure everything was executed as planned, quality to meet the desired parameters and safety to ensure zero incidents and zero accidents.” Ammann was chosen because of its technological advantages, on-time delivery and long-lasting business relationship with AIC Infrastructure. The project was completed successfully – on schedule, with minimal interruptions to travelers.
Mr. Kritharth Raja Desai, the managing director of AIC Infrastructure, reported that the Ammann plant, paver and rollers were the ideal matches for the project.
“Excellent teamwork, a pro-active approach and the customer centricity of the Ammann team members helped us to complete the runway resurfacing and profile correction work at India’s busiest airport within the stipulated timeframe,” he said. “We are happy to note, we did not lose even a minute of productivity.”
Mr. Desai said several factors contributed to the successful project completion.
“The Ammann customer support team was very cordial and cooperative in extending on-site parts support,” he said. “In addition, Ammann India deployed trained operators and technicians on-site, which helped us become productive instantly.”
Ammann engineers monitored the condition of the plant and machines nearly every day. Proactive maintenance ensured there were no breakdowns.
“The best part is, the maintenance routines were scheduled by Ammann India in such a way that our productive hours were not impacted at all,” Mr. Desai said. “The suggestions given by Ammann India toward proactive maintenance were very helpful and gave our team a new perspective on how to achieve more with Ammann products.”
Cochin Airport Runway
Another recent project was runway reconstruction at Cochin Airport. “There is no greater test of men and machines than an active runway construction,” said Jerry Varghese, the founder of construction company Tarmat, based in Mumbai. “It is tough, demanding work that requires meticulous planning and timely execution with stringent quality assurance.”
The project required 3000 tons of asphalt mix to be placed daily – and in a five-hour working window. The resurfacing also included a profile correction of the runway at the airport, located in the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. “We were issued a timeframe of eight months to complete the project, but have managed to execute over 90 per cent of the work in four months,” Varghese said.
The crew must be productive to accomplish so much in such a tight timeframe. Varghese pointed to plant and machine uptime as the force behind the productivity. “One of the key success factors is that we did not miss out on our productive hours by even a minute,” Varghese said. “I would attribute this high productivity, which was instrumental to our success on the Cochin Airport runway project, to Ammann India and its employees.” Tarmat utilised several key Ammann products on the project, including two Ammann ABC 140 ValueTec Asphalt-Mixing Plants and an Ammann sprayer.
Varghese further stated that, “People make all the difference.” Varghese said the Ammann team offered help in some specific ways during the project, including customer support, training, maintenance and monitoring of the plant to maximise uptime.
Clearly, Ammann India remains as committed to its customers as ever. That commitment shows up daily on jobsites, such as airports. It also is visible in long-term efforts, such as new and improved facilities.
